{"id":238,"date":"2006-02-09T17:13:36","date_gmt":"2006-02-10T01:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uncle-andrew.net\/blog\/?p=238"},"modified":"2008-06-22T10:33:33","modified_gmt":"2008-06-22T17:33:33","slug":"downtime-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.uncle-andrew.net\/blog\/?p=238","title":{"rendered":"Downtime Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had a few minutes after lunch this afternoon so I decided to put together something I&#8217;ve wanted for quite a while: a custom 404 page.<\/p>\n<p>For those not in the know, a 404 page is a special Web page that a Web server displays only when someone requests a page or file that does not exist, or at least does not exist at that location. Usually these are pretty boring, like this:<\/p>\n<div class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"pics\/404-example.jpg\" alt=\"Example of a 404 page\" border=\"1\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Naturally, something that humdrum simply won&#8217;t do for a high-class operation like this one (*cough* *hack* *wheeze*), so I created a 404 page with a tad more zazz.<\/p>\n<p>Now, when someone requests a page that is not available on Uncle Andrew Dot Net, <a href=\"404.html\">this is what they will see<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pity the most common 404&#8217;s I get are coming from human offal trying to hack my site using an outdated <a href=\"http:\/\/isc.sans.org\/diary.php?storyid=823\">xmlrpc sploit<\/a>.
