{"id":76,"date":"2005-02-11T20:06:06","date_gmt":"2005-02-12T04:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=76"},"modified":"2008-06-22T12:20:31","modified_gmt":"2008-06-22T19:20:31","slug":"irony-chef","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.uncle-andrew.net\/blog\/?p=76","title":{"rendered":"Irony Chef"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Flipping through the channels this evening, we happened across an ad for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/food\/show_ia\/text\/0,,FOOD_16696_27031,00.html\">Iron Chef America<\/a>, the Food Network spinoff of the wonderful original series from Japan&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fujitv.co.jp\/en\/index2.html\">Fuji Television<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Now, I have nothing against the American version of this show; while it lacks much of the zany pomp of its Japanese counterpart, it does have its good points. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altonbrown.com\/\">Alton Brown<\/a> does a very nice job of emceeing the show, and the dude playing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodtv.com\/food\/takeshi_kaga\/article\/0,1974,FOOD_10008_1696215,00.html\">Chairman Kaga&#8217;s<\/a> nephew is so obviously a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aloha-hawaii.com\/hawaii\/native+tongue\/\">kama&#8217;aina<\/a>\u2014he pronounces &#8220;history&#8221; as if it&#8217;s spelled with an &#8220;sh&#8221; in the middle\u2014that I always get a giggle out of his part in the show.<\/p>\n<p>No, the reason I bring this whole thing up has to do with the commercial itself, which ended with &#8220;Iron Chef America: sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kraft.com\">Kraft<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snapple.com\">Snapple<\/a>!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Huh? &#8220;Five-Star Gourmet Cuisine Cooking Challenge: brought to you by the makers of Microwavable Mac &#038; Cheese and Bottled Sugar Water!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What, had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slimjim.com\">Slim Jims<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yoo-hoo.com\">Yoo Hoo<\/a> already blown their ad budgets for this fiscal year?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flipping through the channels this evening, we happened across an ad for Iron Chef America, the Food Network spinoff of the wonderful original series from Japan&#8217;s Fuji Television.
