IN THE 21st CENTURY, MALINGERING ON THE JOB
IS AN ENDEAVOR OF INTERNATIONAL PROPORTIONS

Every personal site needs a Links page. I seriously considered just putting a single link to someone else's Links page, to save me the effort. But I couldn't find one that felt really represented me. So here goes, in no particular order.

Fungi Perfecti
Fungi Perfecti is my employer, and a fine employer it is. We're a Certified Organic gourmet and medicinal mushroom company, but that description is about as accurate as calling Stephen Hawking an astronomy buff. The company is run by a mad scientist named Paul Stamets, who over the last quarter-century has expanded his company from a purveyor of ready-to-grow mushroom kits into an internationally-recognized expert in advanced cultivation techniques, medicinal mushrooms, mycoremediation, you name it.

Slashdot
Subtitled, "News for Nerds. Stuff That Matters." This is a great clearing house for information and opinion on things of a scientific and technical nature, with an emphasis on technical innovation, Internet culture and personal liberty and responsibility in the Information Age.

Cafe Mam Coffee
Shade grown, Certified Organic, pesticide-free coffee from a cooperative farm in Chiapas, Mexico. Brought to you by Royal Blue Organics of Eugene, Oregon, Cafe Mam coffee is socially responsible, ecologically sustainable and a fantastic cup o' joe to boot. Webmaster's recommendation: try the Tango blend, if you're into coffee that gets your attention. The truly fearless will want to try the French Roast!

Odd Todd
If you haven't run across Odd Todd...well, you should. A collection of hilarious animated shorts by an unemployed New Yorker. Requires Macromedia's Flash Player to view them.

Snopes: Urban Legends Reference Pages
Okay kiddies, I'm going to say this once and only once. Will you all PLEASE ferchrissakes bookmark this site, and consult it before you forward that email regarding the newest computer virus, teenage street-gang initiation, or warning about drinking Coke products issued by Middle Eastern friends of friends of friends to every single person in your bloody address book. An invaluable resource for the properly skeptical, the casually curious and the pathetically naïve alike.

Doonesbury Daily Dose
Everybody needs a daily dose of Doonesbury! Sadly, many of us haven't the time to read the paper (even the funnies) before we're off to our cubicles getting poisoned by cathode rays. Well, put that mutagenic radiation to work for you! Have a laugh on Gary Trudeau.

Dykes to Watch Out For
This is the Doonesbury of the alternative lifestyle crowd, as intricate and organically funny as Doonesbury. If you like the former, you'll love the latter. Likewise, if you don't, you won't.

Peter Bagge
Former editor of Robert Crumb's Weirdo, former author of Hate, Peter Bagge is one of the coolest cartoonists out there. Fiercely independent yet hopelessly insecure. Aggressive yet regressive. Absurd yet flaccid. Whatever.

Fridgemagnet
A great little slice-of-life blog by a (now relocated to the states?) British IT-nerd. Heavy on the tech stuff. Be sure to check out Cleaning the Fucking Kitchen for Dummies!

Folding@Home
In the tradition of the enormously popular SETI@Home Program, this project of Stanford University's Biochemistry Department uses your personal computer's idle time to process simulations, in order to help crack the mystery of how proteins self-assemble ("fold"). Yet another fantastic use of your computer's spare up-time....definitely better than flying toasters.

Jaffe Bros. Natural Foods
In business since 1948, Jaffe Bros. offers Certified Organic, untreated fruits, nuts and other fine food products. Webmaster's Recommendation: If you're a fan of this sort of thing, try their organic salt-rolled Greek black olives....not quite as obnoxious as some Greek olives on the market, but they'll grab your attention.

The Southern Poverty Law Center
Founded in 1971 in Montgomery, Alabama, The Southern Poverty Law Center is a non-profit organization that works to promote human rights and racial equality. The SPLC has been involved in many educational efforts and legal actions in this noble endeavor.

Steelhead Fabricators
Steel artisan John Hicks produces some truly beautiful and fun designs for the home, garden, wherever. We picked up one of his Stainless Steelheads for our dining room. It looks superb against our brick wall! If you place an order, make sure to throw in a couple of Geckos; they make great gifts.

Homestarrunner.com
Homestarrunner.com is....well....I suppose I should try to explain it....hmm....well, it requires Macromedia's Flash Player to view. Yeah, that's it. I really can't think of an effective way to describe it beyond that. Ooo, except to recommend that you specifically check out Strong Bad's Email.

Gel Boomerangs
I've known Michael Girvin, aka Mike Gel, for years. He is as cool, colorful and easy to get along with as his boomerangs. Forget everything you think you know about boomerangs; they are fun to throw and easy to master. Go buy some from him. Now, dammit! We'll wait. And consider joining the United States Boomerang Association while you're at it. (Of course there's a United States Boomerang Association!)

AllYourBrand.org
If you are even remotely tied into 'Net culture, you recognize the phrase "All Your Base Are Belong to Us". If you're not, you probably have a life, a job or at least a romantic partner. AllYourBrand.org was created to preemptively hijack the phrase, in as many forms as possible, before it could be co-opted by one or more advertising firms for use as a tool to sell us yet more sport-utility vehicles and feminine hygiene products. The site abounds with amusing takes on this most popular and viral of Internet memes, and invites you to submit your own.
