Huh. Maybe that’s the reason I weighed so little in high school and college. It wasn’t my eating habits or a young, healthy metabolism, it was all of those exercises in futility. (It was practically my minor.)
Then I got older and stopped wasting my time on futile pursuits . . . and now I need bigger pants. [Slaps forehead] It’s all so clear to me now!
I think I need to go lay down.

Um, I used “lay down” instead of the proper “lie down” because I was making a very subtle editor’s joke. Yeah, yeah, that’s it.
