Um… Isn’t that what a program planner is for?

Listening to KUOW on my way to work Wednesday morning I was more than a little amused by the following.

Morning Edition stops for a station break. There’s a brief spate of local weather, station identification and then the bumper for the next program on the lineup. In this case, KUOW’s Weekday. The bumper went something like this:
“The population of the Earth is about to hit 7 billion. By (some year I don’t remember) the human population of this planet will be 10 billion. Is this sustainable?”
Followed by the famous (infamous?) clip from Soylent Green. A bloody Charlton Heston stating, then screaming in disgust “It’s made out of people. Soylent green is made out of people. LISTEN TO ME! YOU’VE GOT TO TELL THEM! SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!!!”

Okay, very dramatic. Without a doubt, a poignant sound clip to illustrate what is and will be a major concern for many years to come.

But what made me giggle for the rest of the day was that, into the silence following that (possibly prophetic) denouncement came: “Support for KUOW is provided by Cedar Grove Compost. Cedar Grove. Taking yard waste and food scraps and producing nutrient rich compost, top soil, and mulch.”

Followed by the sound of Margaret snorting tea out her nose.
